FAQs
I’ve never received a criminal charge before, what do I do?
First, before you go to court, you should talk to a defence lawyer.
But if you haven’t, on your first day in court you’ll be asked if you intend to plead guilty or not guilty. Before you make a decision, you should request an “adjournment” to give yourself time to talk to a lawyer to assist you.
Do I need a lawyer if I plan on pleading guilty?
Yes. Having a lawyer review your case before entering a guilty plea can be invaluable.
Even if you plan on pleading guilty, a lawyer can point out potential defences that can be used to get a reduction on sentence - or sometimes, to have charges dropped altogether.
Having an experienced lawyer assist you with entering a guilty plea can also make sure you don’t receive any surprise penalties and make sure you’re fully aware of the consequences of your sentence.
How much does a lawyer cost?
The cost of hiring a lawyer depends on the length of time required - which can vary depending on the complexity of your charges.
We charge a flat fee based on the complexity of your case so that you know exactly what our services will cost with no surprise fees or expenses down the road.
We believe that a good defence should be affordable and work closely with our clients to tailor expenses to their specific circumstances.
